Prof. Dr. Horst Köhler, Former President of Germany and today Eminent Person in the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on the Post 2015 Development Agenda, has visited Ghana from June 23rd to 26th 2013 to support the idea of a European-African Business Dialogue.

During his visit, Prof. Köhler met with representatives of several German development institutions, among them the Hanns Seidel Foundation. In the course of a lively discussion he addressed topics such as natural resource management and rising youth unemployment in Ghana, and invited those present to share their views on the situation. Prof. Köhler also broached the issue of the fundamental strategic focus as well as shortcomings of German development cooperation in Ghana and West Africa.

It came as a surprise, although certainly a pleasant one, when Prof. Köhler directly inquired about “Project Citizen”, an initiative conducted by the HSF Ghana in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE). Previously hearing of our project had sparked his interest to learn more about its concept and success. What a high-level source of motivation to dedicatedly continue our work!
